trail cam reviews

Postby ochunter on Tue Jul 13, 2010 9:06 pm

I bought a new Primos truth cam 46 this past weekend at bass pro. On their website it showed up for $149.00 and at Cabela's website it was $129.00. When i got over there I asked at check out if they price match. They did and I bought it for $129.00. I set it up and will be checking it this next weekend. I'll also post pictures from the Moultrie I-60 I-40 as well as a Busnell trophy cam that we got about a month ago. So far I am highly disappointed in the Bushnell. To me it does not cover as much area with its infrared compared to the Moultries we have. On a feeder on a power line right of way the Moultries will illuminate all the way across to other side of the clearing where as the Bushnell will only go half way across. Day time pictures look fine. I read the reviews on the new Moultries and decided to pass on them.

Update 7-17-2010

I went and checked the cameras Friday night. I only checked the the Bushnell and the Primos. The Moultries are on another part of the property that I didn't make it to. After having looked at all the pictures I think I like the Primos a little better than the Bushnell. One it was $80 cheaper. And two it was more leds which give you more coverage at night. I don't think either one is as good as the old Moultrie I-40 and I-60. You can make your on decisions.

Any of you seen Wildgame Innovations "The Unit"? It looks like the Bushnell Trophy Cam and is the same size (4" x 6") but has like 40 IR LED's and sells for $159 on Cabelas. It also uses AA batteries like the Bushnell TC which are the main two things that I like about it.

I was kind of hoping someone else would take the plunge first on the "Unit". You know the cheap and tight thing
Here is a link to the camera I am talking about

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ ... m1&Go.x=17

And it is a Stealth Cam not a Wildgame Innovations. Sorry

Looked it up and it's the same Price $159 at BPS.

Wildgame Innovations also has a similar cam for around $125. The x6c..Chasing Game is doing a review of it. I also wonder how it will compare to the Bushnell. My wife bought me a 2010 Bushnell Trophy Cam XLT for my birthday from Bass Pro. It has the viewer and was about $250. After I got it I was double checking the reviews on it...apparently Chasing Game had given it great reviews on the first Models they got back in May...but the factory changed the firmware and made some other changes that were terrible...I set it up in the living room and just left it for a few days...the trigger time was terrible...and the all of the pictures blurry..I am taking it back and replacing if with a 2009 model which I ordered from Midway USA for $160. Not as many features but I think I will be happy.

I have 2009 model without the viewer. It is fantastic on daytime photos with amazing trigger speeds. I actually got a coyote running through the area at 5 feet in front in the camera. It is almost dead center. The night-time photos are pretty grainy and black and white but they serve the purpose. You have to be smart and set them up in an area with about 30 to 40 feet of viewing area max. Really there best at about 5 ft to probably 20 ft. It has the fastest trigger of any camera I have used and the battery life is unreal. Plus I like the AA batteries way better than c's or d's.

If you remember to set it in closeup situations you will be well pleased with the camera. It's only shortcoming is the weakness of the flash.

Can't wait to get your report on the review from Chasing Game on the "Unit".
